Dr. Amy Birnbaum

Amy Birnbaum, MD is a Hand and Upper Extremity Orthopedic Surgeon with special training in microsurgery. â€‹She is a member of the RYC Orthopedics team, a private practice in NYC and NJ.

​

Dr. Birnbaum provides a broad range of surgical treatment for the hand, shoulder, arm, elbow, and wrist including fracture care, joint replacements, ligamentous and nerve repair, tumor surgery and arthroscopy.  She has special training in microsurgery as well as pediatric hand surgery.  She currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

Dr. Birnbaum grew up outside of Philadelphia and received her undergraduate degree at Pennsylvania State University.  Before medical school, she obtained her Masters degree at Rutgers in Biomedical Sciences and spent a year working on urban health at the Camden Coalition, in New Jersey with AmeriCorps. ​​

 

She has a special interest in ‘wide awake local anesthesia no tourniquet’ (WALANT) and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Birnbaum strives to provide comprehensive care for diseases and injuries to help restore function and relieve pain for her patients, as fast as possible and with as little discomfort as possible.​

 

Dr. Birnbaum has published multiple articles to benefit the scientific community in upper extremity care. She is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the American Association for Hand Surgery.​

 

Dr. Birnbaum lives in Manhattan with her husband and beloved Old English Sheepdog, Marvin.
